Charlie will report on the planning commission’s recommendation to the city council regarding changes in zoning, design requirements, and transportation flow that would affect all future redevelopment of Newcastle’s downtown core.
For years (decades!) Newcastle residents have envisioned a more active, vibrant downtown. Last January you heard from The Planning Division of the Community Development Department. Now, it’s the Planning Commission’s turn.
Gadzik, Newcastle’s Vice Chair of the Newcastle Planning Commission, will bring us up to date on the 2017 Strategic Development Plan — and help us navigate the next phase.
The Newcastle Planning Commission serves an important role by helping to shape the city’s build environment and to conserve its natural spaces. Commissioners provide the city’s decision-makers with valuable input from the people living in Newcastle. They advise the City Council on the Comprehensive Plan, development codes and other matters related to development and land use. The City Council assigns an annual work plan to Commissioners, which may be modified during the year.
The Planning Commission is made up of seven members appointed by the City Council and is staffed by the Community Development Department.
