 The Chamber welcomes its newest sustaining member – Newcastle Commons.

Newcastle Commons is a mixed-use development with around 900 apartments and for-sale houses and 45,000 square feet of commercial space, built and managed by AvalonBay.

A development of over 760 residences will add around 1,500 people to our city’s population, which now stands at just under 11,000.  It’s further evidence of the incredible growth the Eastside is experiencing, much like the city of Seattle.

Mutual Materials Co., which ran the brick plant on the site, sold the property at 6620 Coal Creek Parkway S.E.  The property is on the north end of the suburb near the border with Bellevue, and is a couple miles east of the Golf Club at Newcastle.

The development will include a town-center concept, with a primary entrance leading to a number of ground-level retail establishments with residences situated above.  The entry street will lead to an outdoor community area with trees and a grassy park setting.

AvalonBay plans to keep ownership of most of the property and will build 700 for-rent units and approximately 20,000 square feet of retail. The company plans to sell property to developers who could build 200 for-sale houses and the rest of the commercial space.  The project is in phased development.  According to the development agreement the city has with AvalonBay, the project will be built in multiple phases.  Ever-cognizant of its connection to nature, Newcastle Commons will retain its wetlands, streams and steep slopes and connect with the existing trails along the property’s perimeter.
